Neuroanatomical, Immunocytochemical and Electrophysiological Studies on Cercal Sensory Receptors in the Female Locust

چکیده
Relatively little is still known about the function, types and location of cercal sensory systems. This system detects and encodes different sensory modalities: wind, touch and gustatory. It is focused on fine structure and distribution of various types of cercal sensilla in the desert locust were investigated with scanning electron microscope and neuroanatomical techniques. Two types of sensory receptors were identified and classified as mechanoreceptors (filiform sensilla) and chemoreceptors (basiconic sensilla). Also, the morphology and the organization of individual sensory receptors (mechanoreceptors or chemoreceptors) in the CNS were examined by immunocytochemical characterization of single neuron. All afferent fibres from individual filiform and basiconic sensilla project in the tenth neuromere of the terminal abdominal ganglion. Projections from single multiply innervated hair sensilla do not segregate with the exception of one afferent of contact chemosensory hairs which terminate only in its segmental neuromere, as was shown for other contact chemoreceptors of the abdomen. Another focus is on the electrophysiological response of individual mechanoreceptors or chemoreceptors to mechanical or chemical stimulation were analyzed. Effect of nitric oxide modulation on the basic and rate-dependent electrophysiological properties of AV-node in the isolated heart of rabbit: The role of adrenergic and cholinergic receptors
Introduction: Recent studies showed that nitrergic system have specific modulatory effects on electrophysiological properties of atrioventricular (AV) node. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of nitric oxide (NO) on the electrophysiological properties of isolated rabbit AV node and to investigate the role of adrenergic and cholinergic receptors in the mechanism of its action...

The inhibitory innervation of the intersegmental (body wall) muscles between the first and the second thoracic segment of the migratory locust, Locusta migratoria, was investigated using neuroanatomical, immunocytochemical and electrophysiological techniques. Three neurons located in the prothoracic ganglion show GABA-like immunoreactivity and project into the intersegmental nerve. Two are comm...
متن کاملPreliminary Studies on Antioxidative Potentials of Extracts of Defatted Locust Bean Condiment
Preliminary investigation on antioxidative potentials of defatted fermented locust bean extract in comparison to defatted non-fermented locust bean was conducted. Qualitative antioxidative assessment on the extract was accomplished by screening the phytochemical endowment, and similar bioactive components. Also some antioxidative indices were quantitatively evaluated. Results showed that the de...
متن کاملThe cricket cercal system implements delay-line processing.
The cercal sensory system of crickets mediates sensitivity to low-amplitude air currents. The sense organ for this system is a pair of antenna-like abdominal appendages called cerci, each of which is about 1 cm long in normal adult crickets. Although this system has been used extensively as a model system for studying the mechanisms underlying neural coding at the cellular and system levels, no...
متن کاملPresynaptic inhibition of identified wind-sensitive afferents in the cercal system of the locust.
The paired cerci located at the tip of the locust abdomen bear a large number of wind-sensitive filiform hairs, each of which sends an axon via the cercal nerve into the terminal ganglion of the CNS. The filiform afferents fire bursts of action potentials when their hairs are displaced by wind or mechanical stimuli. Filiform axon terminals in the CNS are depolarized concomitantly with the disch...
